Efficient organization of space during transportation, as well as during storage, is an important issue that affects both the ergonomic management of available space and the safety of goods. Therefore, one of the practices used is stacking of pallets. In transport as well as storage, nested structures are most often used. This allows you to transport more at a time, while greatly improving both loading and unloading. Find out what the correct stacking of pallets in transport is all about.
Stacking of pallets in transport – how to perform it correctly?
Stacking of pallets is their proper stacking, which saves space and at the same time provides stability for transporting goods. Often, various types of equipment, such as chain conveyors, belt conveyors, belt conveyors, palletizer, pallet wrapper or banding machine, help in the proper stacking of these items. The basis of proper pallet stacking is stability and alignment, which will ensure the center of gravity in the center of the structure.
When stacking pallets, no side of the column should deviate from the vertical. This is only allowed up to a value of 2%. The pallets must also not form a stack that is too high. It is important that the individual pallets are stacked overlapping. A stabilizing spacer must also be placed every few pallets.
The resulting column of pallets should be additionally secured with banding, shrink hoods or stretch film, which will further protect the goods, as well as the entire structure, from falling during transport to the destination.
Pallet stacking in transport and dimensional restrictions
Pallet stacking can only be used for sturdy and compression-resistant goods. Such an arrangement of items for transport will not work for products that are prone to deformation, prolonged pressure or that require the maintenance of certain conditions in terms of moisture or temperature.
At the same time, there are also currently no legal regulations that specify a specific height or weight allowed for stacking pallets for transport. Here it is necessary to follow the guidelines provided by the manufacturer for the strength of a particular substrate or type of plastic. Also important here is the permissible load of the pallets themselves, as well as the type of means of transport used for transportation.
Regulations and safety of stacking pallets
In order to ensure the safety of both the goods being transported, the vehicles and the people working on loading and unloading, it is worthwhile to establish your own internal regulations in each company, which will clearly define the limits and methods of stacking pallets. Such provisions will vary depending on the type of products transported, the available fleet or the type of pallets used.
Internal storage and transportation safety instructions can prevent losses and delays in orders, and greatly improve the performance of storage, loading, unloading, as well as transportation itself.
